Summer Crafts for Kids: Friendship Bracelets

Friendship bracelets are an easy summer craft that kids can make that kids love to exchange with their pals.

What You'll Need

  • 2 24” strands of light blue embroidery floss
  • 2 24” strands of pink embroidery floss
  • 2 24” strands of yellow blue embroidery floss
  • scissors

Alternatively, you may substitute any color of your choice for the above colors.

Instructions

Assemble the strands on your work surface in matching pairs. Ensure that the strands are of equal length.

Hold the strands together. Next, fold the strands in half. Create a knot at the center in order to create a loop.

Separate the strands into three sections: light blue, pink and yellow.

Tape the knotted end to a table or hang it with a thumbtack in a bulletin board in order to keep string taut as you braid.

Braid the three strands. Continue braiding until you have a braid that will fit around your wrist.

At the end of the braid, combine strands so as to make two strands instead of three. Tie into a knot to complete the braid.

Next, eparate the strands again into two separate groups. Braid each group, ensuring that you leave sufficient room at the end in order to tie a knot. Knot both small braids. Trim off any excess strands to make them tidy and even.

Wrap the bracelet around your wrist; ask a friend to tie the small braids to the loop at the end to secure the bracelet.
