Applesauce
The perfect complement to latkes, applesauce adds a nice hint of color to your Hanukkah dish.
Applesauce can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or frozen for up to six months, making it a perfect treat to prepare ahead of time.
What You’ll Need
- 2 1/2 pounds sweet apples (such as McIntosh), peeled, cored and quartered
- 1 1/2 cups water or apple cider
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- lemon juice, freshly squeezed
In a pan on low heat, combine apples and water or apple cider. Cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, or for about 25 minutes. Drain; but keep the liquid. Puree apples in a processor, adding cinnamon, sugar and juice. Add about a third to a half cup of cooking liquid for a good consistency.
Makes 8 servings.
Serve with potato latkes.
