My 17 month old daughter is beginning to drive me nuts. She's almost worse than a dog when it comes to the fact that she won't stay out of the kitchen trash!!!! (breathe, breathe, breathe)

It worries me because sometimes there's stuff in their with raw chicken or some other kind of raw meat. She is always taking stuff out of the trash and walking around with it, leaving it all over the house. Sometimes things in the trash still have juice or something wet in them that is wreaking havoc on my carpet.

It's driving me up the wall. Sometimes, when I want peace and quiet, I put the entire freakin tall, white trash can standing up on the kicthen table. But she can now climb on the table so that's not much of an option anymore.

Is there an answer to this? I'm willing to buy a new trash can or device to make her stop getting into it! Please help! It's making me crazy!

try not to put trashcan inside the house, it is better that you have to place the trash outside on a secure place. be sure that you are giving her healthy delicious, fun-looking, exciting and tempting snacks everyday so she can't divert her attention to it. stuff your fridge with some goodies that will make her feel opening the fridge other than scavenging the trash :).

I've tried every trash can!! They can all be lifted up one way or another. I have to put mine in the adjacent laundry room and close the door. It's a real Paing in the butt!

My littleone likes to put things INTO the trash, so once in a while I'll give her that task to go "throw something in the trash" and from the very beginning I would tell her that the trash was YUCKY!!!
She gets a big kick out of it.
I'm not sure if that spin would work for you

We just bought this trash can and it is really good, and unless your daughter knows how to step on the foot pedal, she shouldn't be able to get into it. The lid is kind of inset and ends up being flush with the top so you can't get your fingers under it to lift it up. We didn't even think about it when we bought it, but discovered it when we got home and my son couldn't get into the trash anymore! It's not cheap, but I used the 20% off coupon from Bed, Bath and BEyond.

Our trash bin is located in the kitchen. The great thing is that our kitchen has a door, separating it from the rest of living room. So, we just keep our kitchen door closed so that our little one won't be able to touch anything from the kitchen including the trash bin.

I also put the garbage can in the laundry room and close the door. Been doing that since my son could walk because he was always drawn to the trash can.

If you don't have a nearby laundry room or pantry to stash it in, try putting it under the sink. You might need to get a smaller can. We have separate cans for true trash and recycling. Since most of our "trash" is actuality recycling, our trash doesn't pile up as quickly and we don't need such a big can. Recycling stuff is generally cleaner so we just put it in a pedal type can. This is great because our son (3) is already in the habit of recycling.
