Hi all! I need a good book with some tips for parents of toddlers. My 16mo old DD has always been spirited. She's willful and inpatient, yet loving and kind. She throws tantrums easily and isn't communicating as well as SHE would like. I think that's part of her frustration. Anyway, she throws fits if I take something away that she shouldn't have and also throws fits if I don't respond to her needs immediately. How do I help her? She doesn't understand why I can't jump to her every whim and freaks out about it. With second baby on her way in April, I really need to prepare my daughter. I won't always be able to jump at her every need right away and I'm scared that she'll feel completely depressed about it. Any tips, books, stories, advice would be great!

A good toddler book may be Tales of Peter Bunny by Beatrice Potter. I have been able to teach my kids many concepts by using the characters in the story. For instance, Peter would have been much better off listening to mommy OR you might end up meeting a Mr. MacGregor if you throw a tantrum etc. etc. I am not kidding. It started out as reading a story to them, but soon I was able to leverage the plot/characters in to learning points.

123 Magic for SURE, and I have also learned a lot from What to Expect the Toddler Years.

My 3 year old loves the Berenstain Bears. and they have a book called the Berenstain Bears and the new baby that deals with that topic.

Try "The Toddler Owner's Manual" I really enjoyed this book and found this to be funny yet practical. If you don't like all the fluff of your typical parenting tome, can take a little snark and you want to get down to business already, then you'll want this book on your shelf.

You may want to look at The Girlfriend's Guide to Toddlers. It's contents are really down to earth and it comes from a real Mom. I really like this book.
