my sister is going through the empty nest syndrome. her twins just left last september for college and she is quite depressed. she divorced 2 years ago. i told her to start dating again. but she seems depressed.

I remember that my mom took up French right after my youngest brother left for college. My dad has always been an avid golfer and is now aiming to be a professional PGA player... LOL :)

Your mom will figure it out. Encourage her to try new hobbies and find diversions and amusements!

Well kids will leave their parents home at some point. I think it is better to be supportive. I remember that I visited every school holiday so that they wont be too lonely and I still do until now.

My parents also too up hobbies like Allyson's.

just tell her to keep busy. I like the idea of having hobbies. Maybe she can finally do a project that she has set aside for years because of her family.

depression is a state of mind. she should just look towards the happy memories because all kids leave their parents home.

I agree that your mom should get a hobby or maybe even a new boyfriend. things like these can rejuvenate them. dwelling on problems can be depressing.
