Hi!
I just want to verify information. I was told that babies normally learns to walk by 12 months... is that true?
and does it indicate delayed development if the baby starts to walk only after 12 months?

well GENERALLY kids would start walking by that age but not necessarily all kids. Each child is unique and it may take some time for others before they can walk. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are delayed or something is wrong if they go beyond 12 months.

well one thing you can try is to place your baby on the floor, as ong as te baby can sit, then place the babies favorite toy at a distance the baby will walk if they can since they are curious in nature.

Never pressure a baby in doing things that they can't do yet. Like what paula mentioned, it's in general but it doesn't that it must be that way to all kids. Wait for the right time. You just constantly support them but don't rush their development. Always remember that it's unique to every child.

i couldn't agree more with cassie. Every parent should just constantly support their kids with their development but not pressure them.

Relax ladies the OP did not mention of pressuring her kid into learning to walk. She asked a pretty common question. In fact, I think it is the mom who has gotten pressured.

Now, kidding aside, I will agree with the others that by the first year a child will start learning to walk. Assisted, children of this age are able to start walking around awkwardly. By the age of 2 walking/running for them would become natural. Many can even walk up and down the stairs very well.
