What are educational yet fun games that we can teach our children? I really want them to read books but they, especially my son, would choose his toy airplane over books. I was wondering if there are any toys that can be considered as educational and fun too.

I am no expert so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Give him LEGO or similar kind of toys. It brings out the creativity in my child. He builds things out of his imagination. From castles to cards to airplanes, my kid has fun building stuff from the LEGO set I gave him. Try it!

Lego does wonders to childs imagination, if your kid is too old for lego there is a toy to build aiplanes (miniature models) this is educational since it will let the kid know how stuff works. Build your own toy from any hobby shop will do.

for shool-aged children, any "brainteasers" can help. An example of which is scrabble.. it enhances their vocabulary... or there's also this game called "TABOO", bunch of cards with words and you try to describe the word reflected in the card but you should not mention the taboo words indicated. It is really fun but it stimulates the mind.

i agree to all... education can also be fun and games can also be educational. Different kinds of games or toys develop different kinds of skills. Mind games or as mentioned a set LEGO are good materials to use.

LEGO blocks is one educational game. You have the option to let the child play in the computer with educational online games. Its interactive, colorful and has various selections.

Kiddie puzzles games! That is good way to train a child into distinguishing patterns and problem solving. There are lots of puzzles made for children at different age levels.

I wonder if kids still has the patience with jig saw puzzle, its a great way for them to distiguish shape and sizes and also teach them a great deal of patience.
