how do you know if your child has developmental delays in speech? what are the symptoms?

you need a pro to diagnose this but here are a few symptoms i found on the net:

* Often talking in loud or very soft voice.
* Find difficulty in responding to the call from across the room even to some interesting things.
* Difficulty in understanding of what is said or to follow directions even after reaching three years of age.
* Shows no startling to loud noises.
* Deformed or small ears may be seen.
* Unable to develop sounds or words at an appropriate age.

2nd to the last is actually a hearing defect and one of the most common issue for speech development delay. since they can;t hear the words clearly then they can really learn it.

wow. in some cases the kid just gets labeled as "dumb" or "slow". this is why early detection is really important.

i wonder why things like this and autism and add keep getting more common? is it our diet, lifestyle or is it our genes?
