I have a suspicion that my nephew is a special child. I think he has ADD but he is only 2 yo. can he be diagnosed at this age?

annabelle - December 5th, 2010 3:34 AM

yes. even at this early stage there are already diagnostic tools available. also there are symptoms that doctors can spot.

the earlier you get a diagnosis, the better. There are a lot of good child psychologists and they know how to handle young kids.

I agree. Please seek qualified help at once. Even if it is just a suspicion!

cara_donnie - December 6th, 2010 4:38 AM

I would go seek professional help immediately. One of my nephews is a special child. He has global developmental delay.

I think if you suspect then you should bring your nephew to a qualified psychologist for diagnosis. It can't hurt and then you will be informed what to do.

For your family's peace of mind, I think you should take your nephew to a doctor who specializes in these kinds of cases.

hannah - December 10th, 2010 3:37 AM

there are symptoms of ADD like inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. If you think your nephew goes beyond the "normal" kid behavior for these three then I think it is time to seek help.

emma_54 - December 10th, 2010 4:38 AM

like hannah said if he has the symptoms then it would be better to seek professional help. ADD is usually diagnosed in kids below 7 years old.

Harriet_W - December 11th, 2010 4:34 AM

I never knew that it could be diagnosed this early!

milkyway - December 12th, 2010 2:41 AM

i think this is the age where they start showing symptoms. you should get your suspicions confirmed.

lots of kids are diagnosed early. i think 2 is a good age to get a diagnosis.
