I am just a little disturbed by other parents who give money to their children as allowance in school as early as preschooler. I don't think it is a good training since at their age having to deal with money by themselves is not advisable. What do you think?

That is a big no no for me. For preschooler, giving them snacks is enough. Giving money for allowance is not necessary and they still can't handle it well.

I most certainly agree with you on that Gertrude! That's very unhealthy. It's not good to start introducing money to our toddlers, it will have a lot of negative effects. As mom, I want to be sure that my kiddo is eating clean healthy food or snack, not something that they bought from school vendors...tsk tsk tsk.

exactly and preschoolers don't even know the value of money. some schools provide snacks so there is no need to let them bring snacks.

i myself don't think it's a good idea as well. although at times, it is also something that they should have so they can buy the things that they want but it's really not that important. you can just give them healthy snacks for the entire day they could enjoy.

no i don't and i also don't think it's necessary for young age to hold money unless if this is given during holiday seasons where you can't avoid godmothers/godfathers to give tokens like money, toys and all that.

We should be careful with how we introduce money to them. It may result to bad or good implication on them depending on how we handle it too.

i am also on side of not giving money because it will only help a child to be more dependent on it. we should give them at the right age where they know already how to handle money.

it is common sense that at young age they should not be given money as allowance for school. preschoolers would not even need it because their class will only be for 3 hours or less and for snack time, they can have a sandwich or something.

no it's not proper to give them money at their early age. you can give them but be sure you know where they use the money you gave to them.

i guess it is normal for mothers to do budgeting and yet it is also good that we should train our children how to save money too.

GeeGee - November 14th, 2010 1:43 AM

I admit that I give money to my preschooler sometimes but only very small amounts. I agree that it should not be practiced that early.

phoebe--jane - November 14th, 2010 2:17 AM

i do give money as prizes to my children but they usually put it into their savings. i don't see anything wrong with it. i think it will depend on how they see their parents handling money matters.

Mom_Bee - February 19th, 2011 7:54 AM

nope , i don't give money to my child.

Oceans07 - February 20th, 2011 4:22 AM

only give money that is enough for their daily use or travel. i recommend pack lunches or food for school days.

UniversalGirl - February 20th, 2011 3:26 PM

giving money to kids in the right time or age. but giving enough penny or dollar in a day..

simonstanesha - February 21st, 2011 5:44 AM

giving them enough money for 5 school days is way of training them to be thrift. they can be responsible in handling their allowances.
