I really feel sad when babies are hydrocephalic. it is the case where there is extra fluid in the brain and at a young they have to undergo surgical operation and is in and out in the hospital. How early can we detect hydrocephalus?

dens13 - what i know is, it can be detected through prenatal ultrasound... as to exactly how early? - i have no idea, and i doubt if there is such information.. but we can safely say that it can already be detected even if your child is still inside your womb.

what causes it anyway? why is there such a huge amount of excess water in their brains? where does that water come from?

-Although hydrocephalus was once known as "water on the brain," the "water" is actually cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) — a clear fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

The cause of hydrocephalus is not actually well understood. It is just associated with the normal stuff like infction, head injury/trauma and other diseases. It can also be due to genetics.

my bestfriends baby had hydrocephalus and she was just wonderful, she kept on fighting until her last day. it was detected on her 2nd trimester via ultrasound.
