Depression commonly sets in when we encounter a loss. For children, it could be as simple as losing their favorite toy, or their pet or as major as losing a parent or any person close to them. Normally after some time, these kids would be able to presume their normal activity but for some, they may already need medical intervention. |

There are school aged children who tends to be suicidal when depressed. It is vital for parents or the caregiver to be vigilant with the child's actions. |

Suicidal tendencies in children are not very common however young children do attempt suicide and may do so impulsively when they are upset or angry. |

-Always take a suicide threat seriously. Aside from deliberately threatening to kill themselves there are other warning signs that parents should be aware of. When they have many depressive symptoms, when they increase acting-out behaviors or when isolate themselves, monitor you child closely. |

Children from chaotic or conflicted families, or children and teens who abuse substances like alcohol and drugs, are also at greater risk of depression. |

Seek for medical help if you feel that your child is not getting any better. Recognize that the problem is there. The thing with some parents is that they cannot accept the fact that their kid needs medical or even psychiatric help. It only worsens the situation. |

I agree with you brooke. It does happen that parents realize the need to seek for psychiatric or psychological help for their kids too late. |

Some manifests noticeable change in social activities, loss of interest in school and poor academic performance, or a change in appearance. While others are just silent about it, the type where in you can never guess in a million years that they have suicidal tendencies. |

They may also be misguided children. Showing them constant love and support can do wonders in changing their perspective. |
