I was once an outgoing person but since I had this knee surgery, i became obese.... I don't want my kids to be obese too, they are as outgoing as I was before and they eat a lot, im afraid that once they stop being active they will get the same desease that I have.

So keep them active. Kids love sports like basketball, football and taekowndo. keep them interested in sports and outdoor activity to keep them from obesity!

it should be a balance of both... a healthy and balanced meal is important apart from doing regular exercises...

Even if you have a bad knee you can still keep active and lose weight gradually. You can exercise with a personal trainer so that further injury to your knee will be avoided. I know this because my brother came home from Iraq with a knee injury too and got better with the help of a personal trainer and therapy.

If they follow the right diet then it wont matter if they cut down on their activities. Remember that a big factor in being obese is the food and the quantity of food you shove down your throat.

Aroma Therapy,

There are still other things you can do despite your knee to help you lose weight. There's low impact aerobics. It is available in most gyms. There's also brisk walking which is very refreshing and something you can do outside.
