you may place the feeding bottle in his mouth to test if he respond because sometimes babies are just too lame to wake up whenever their hungry. if he doesn't respond at all, then maybe he is not really hungry and just need to sleep first and wait till he wakes up. |

yes you should wake him up because being asleep for so long is not an indication that he is not hungry yet. a newborn should be fed every 2 to 3 hours. |

i've had the same problem with my baby when he was less than a month old. if i just let him continue sleeping, when he wakes up he always had a very bad tantrums because of hunger. it is better to wake him up and he will just sleep back after feeding. |

Our pedia told us that we have to feed our son at least every 5 hours and to wake him up if he hasn't woken himself within that time period. He is 6 weeks old and the ped. does not want us to change that routine yet. We are formula feeding, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not. |

if its during the day i would wake him up every 4-5 hours but at night id let him sleep til he wakes up, thats what we did with our son to try n keep him in the routine of nighttime means sleep time and we've never had a problem with him sleeping through the night, not saying thats the sole reason why but i think it helped. |

For a baby that young, i would wake him up especially if it is during the day time. At this age they should be eating every 2-3 hours during the day. I never had my son sleep for longer than 4 hour stretch, had to wake him up once at 4 hours to eat. |

I say no. But again everyone is different. Our ped told us every 4-5 hrs wake him but, my mom always said "How would you feel if you were sleeping and I woke you up?". I took that to heart and never woke my son up. And he would sleep in 6-7 hrs stretches at time and even during the day. At mos he was sleeping thro the night and up until 12 1/2 months he was still taking 2, 2-2 1/2 hrs naps. Just now in the last two weeks he has switched to 1 3 hr nap and he still sleeps all night usually. With the occasional wake up due to gas or being cold. He's always been a good sleeper.. maybe yours is too! |

Wake him up! If you ever want him to learn to sleep through the night you cannot let him sleep for more than 3 hours during the day! I read that a newborn baby can usually have one long sleep period in 24 hours, lasting about 5 hours... but you want that sleep period to be at night while YOU can sleep too! |
