we're expecting a baby and we really want to prepare well enough once she is out. any thoughts on how we can childproof our house?

Use covers on electrical outlets and latches on cabinets.

Also, if there are sharp edges on your furnitures please round them up via fille or hire a carpenter to do so. kids like to run around they might get hit by it.

I love my dogs, and i had two of them. When I had my baby i was afraid that my dogs will hurt her. good thing that my dogs loves my baby as much as i do.
not sure with if you have dogs or this is applicable.
