My littleone is about to turn 4 months old. She is eating 3 to 4 oz of formula every 3 to 4 hours. We try to feed her more but she is content at 4 oz. When should I consider feeding her baby food? I hear from some people that I can start her at 4 mo and others say 6 mo???

i started feeding my baby at 4 months old. i think you will be the ultimate judge of it because some babies start to eat early and others are still satisfied with milk that long.

it depends, but normally moms would feed their babies cereal at 6mos. in case your baby is experiencing choking, you can move feeding solid food at 7-8 mos. and so on...

4 months too young, six is about the average age of babies that moms start to feed them. you can start with cereals and smashed fruits and smashed veggies to start like potatoes or squash.

how would we know that the baby is ready for solids? do you believe in those myths that elders do before giving solids?

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization both say to wait until 6 months old to start any food other than formula or breastmilk. The AAP used to say 4-6 months, but no longer. Starting earlier than 6 months increases your baby's risk for developing allergies. At 6 months, you can be sure that your baby's digestive system is mature enough to handle solids. In fact, 6 months is the minimum. Babies don't NEED solids until 12 months. So if your baby is not ready at 6 months, don't worry, just wait.

It doesn't matter what the order of food introduction is. You can start with cereal, or cooked rice, or banana, or avocado, or pureed stuff. You can start with soft finger foods at 6 months, you don't need to use baby foods at all.

Babies should get most to all of their nutrition from formula or breastmilk for the entire first 12 months. Solid food is mainly to introduce the baby to the tastes and textures of food. When you start solids, the amount of formula should not change for a few months.

Your pedia. will give you guidance at the 4 month visit. If you picked your doctor well, no reason not to trust their advice. My doctor said we could start cereal followed by fruits and veggies at four months. At 6 months another doctor in the practice said we should start solids if we hadn't. My baby is eating almost everything already. He hates babyfood since I started slipping him real food. He's always trying to steal from our plates.

It really depends on your baby. The age is arbitrary. A baby can go the first full year on breastmilk or formula alone. We focus way too much on age. The greater signs are that your baby is able to sit with support, she does not thrust her tongue out when you feeds her, and she is interested in eating. At 4 months, food is not supposed to replace milk, so if you choose to start solids this early, watch her milk intake, because if there is a noticeable decrease, she is not ready.

I introduced baby food to my little one when he was 5 months old, since I noticed that he liked the food and was able to swallow it, I continued to feed him baby food once a day but he still continued to breastfeed regularly until he was 9 months old. Then finally switched to formula milk.

Although it differs per baby, most babies usually start eating baby food when they turn 5 - 7 months old. This is the age where they swallow very soft food slowly. Your pediatrician will tell you when to start introducing baby food and will also give you the guidelines on which food to start with. So, as long as you keep your monthly visits to her pedia, you shouldn't worry.

say like about 5 months i guess, but still it depends with the child. some babies are just too contented with mild and some cereals. but just give it a try or maybe she would like it then you can have it from there.
