Kwanzaa Unity Cup
This gorgeous cup is easy to make; get the kids involved in helping to pick out the symbolic pieces that adorn the cup. Work with different designs and fabrics for variety.
What You’ll Need
- Remnant material
- Lace trim
- Scissors
- Large stemmed glass
- Decoupage clear finish (This can be found in craft stores in the decoupage section)
- Paintbrush
- Symbolic buttons (These can be found in craft stores)
- Glue gun
- Marker designed for glass (optional)
Cut two strips of material about 1 inch wide and long enough to fit around the middle of the cup. Brush the backs of the material strips with decoupage clear finish. Adhere them onto the outside middle of the cup.
Paint the right side of the adhered strips with decoupage clear finish to protect them. Make sure not to get the finish on the glass portion that’s not covered by material. Let dry.
Glue buttons using glue gun; glue these in whatever pattern you desire around the material band.
Glue a strip of lace trim on the top and bottom edges of the material.
Using a marker designed for painting glass, write a symbolic phrase and the date, if desired.
