Christmas Crafts For Kids:
Orange Pomanders
Orange pomanders are spicy, fragrant decorations that spell Christmas craft fun for your kids! Pomanders date back to medieval times.
You can use the following materials:
thin-skinned oranges
box of cloves
orris root
cinnamon
nutmeg
ribbon
To make an orange pomander, you want to cover the entire orange in a densely-packed layer of cloves. Just stick the pointy end of the clove into the orange or start the hole by poking it with a toothpick or nail.
Once the orange is covered in cloves, roll the fruit in the orris root and fragrant cinnamon and nutmeg. You’re done! Allow the orange to ripen for a few days; as it ripens, it will shrink. Once it’s shrunk, you can tie on the ribbon for decorative purposes.
Orange pomanders will remain fragrant throughout the holiday season and far beyond!
