is taking an afternoon nap really essential for a toddler's growth? If so, normally how many hours or minutes should a nap at least last?

3-4 hours will do.. growing children really need a good amount of sleep to help them grow..but sometimes afternoon naps can lead them into not having quality sleep at night... just make sure that does not happen.

kids nap for around 1 hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. i wake them up if they dont wake by themselves after 1 1/2 hours so that they can still sleep early at night.

if they dont nap they dont last before dinner time. If they nap too much then they are up all night. I think naps are essential but parents should find the right balance.
