my daughter is a bit overweight for her age. i think she gets teased about it a bit. but she is still in the first grade! are kids this young already conscious about their figure?

Harriet_W - December 25th, 2010 1:07 AM

its the culture nowadays. there's an emphasis that slim is beautiful. although I thought that being figure consious wont happen till high school!

i agree with the above. everybody is conscious about their looks. no wonder kids immitate us.

i would tell your daughter to avoid these types of people. she should be happy with the way she is and not worry about what other people say about her.

does your child want to lose weight. being overweight can cause problems later on. if you can use this to get her to exercise then i think you can get something good out of this ordeal.

being healthy is good. i just dont want to pressure her into conforming just because it is "cooler" to be thin.

if you teach your child to be self confident then she wont be bothered by other people teasing her.

I like what Samantha said. If your child has the self confidence then the teasings wont bother her. she is still young she should just be a child and not be bothered by things like her weight.

i think that even the most self confident child will later succumb and conform to society. This is mainly our fault since we said that thin is beautiful.

kids can be mean sometimes.

it is important to be healthy. but your kid is still young. i know it is important they start to be healthy early but weight should be the least of her worries.

just tell her not to mind them. what is important is that she is comfortable with who she is and she is happy.
