A child must learn to develop independence especially when he/she is starting to go to school. One example I can suggest is leaving the child in school during class hours. Some parents won't leave and wait until the class is dismiss. The child will get use to it and it will be hard for her/him to develop on his own.

What other ways can a child develop independence at an early age?

I agree to that, independence should be developed at an early stage when a child mind is like a sponge that can absorb ideas and skills the most. A child's mind has no limits and therefore if given the opportunity to develop it may reach its maximum and being independent is the best way to obtain it.

we can give them the right to decide what kind of clothes to wear, that way they will learn to be independent in making decisions. we just have to be careful on what certain aspects that they can make their own decision.

you try to teach them do simple house chores, it will develop not only by being independent but the mental and emotional growth as well.

THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS OF BUILDING A CHILD'S INDEPENDENCE. THE EARLIER THE EXPOSURE TO LIFE'S CHALLENGES THE STRONGER WILL THE CHILD BE WHEN HE/SHE GETS OLD. IN SCHOOL, A CHILD SHOULD BE ABLE TO ADJUST TO THE ENVIRONMENT WELL, THUS INDEPENDENCE IS DEVELOPED.

My daughter developed her independence naturally. Maybe because she does not have a father and I am always away for work. She is a very smart girl and she makes her own decision on things she can handle. I am so proud of her.

nice posts here. children at present are all developing so fast and being independent is so natural. sometimes it is threatening but if guided well them there is nothing wrong with it.

the kind of school and how the school handles the child would also be a big factor to the child independence. since it is in school that the child first learn the quality education, development of independence will also depend on it.

schools have a big contribution to the child's independence. in school most activities are given for the purpose of developing the child's independence.

Our kids have grown to be independent and it was not a big work for us parents. They learn it on their own. I think it will depend on how we parents treat them and give responsibilities that they are able to handle.

They can develop independence with the help of their sibling too. Some kids look up to their big sister or brother. So they should show good examples to their younger siblings.

Yes that is true and we parents also have a major impact on them too. Actually, the whole environment contributes to the child's development so we have to consider everything.

that is right ophelia but actually i do wait for my child in school because i think it is the right way to do. he is still in the playgroup stage and i am not comfortable leaving him in school maybe next year i can already leave him in school and just fetch him after.

it is good to know that children are trying to do things on their own. they learn fast and we should support them all the way. it is a good way developing their independence.
