Do any of you have 3 and 4 year olds that still chew on EVERYTHING?
My daughter is 3, and she chews on everything, from her fingernails, to her clothes to her toys. Is this normal, or should I take her to the doctors? She's normal in every other aspect (except the sleep walking, which isn't so severe anymore), she just CHEWS.
I hope someone can calm my worries about it.

all children at toddler years love to put anything in their mouth and of course they are not aware that what they put in their mouth is either good or bad. it is important that you should also familiarize her with the things around the house and even outdoors. you will not only avoid her to put something dangerous in her mouth, you can also teach her different things.

my 2 years old daughter puts anything she sees in her mouth. my concern is that she might put something small consumable by the size of her mouth. i am always alarmed of the things that surrounds her and yet i see to it that i keep small pieces of stuffs and toys out of her reach.

My son will be 4 in December and he loves to chew, chew, chew as well. He never really did it much as a baby but now he does it non stop. He chews on blankets, stuffed animals, and the sleeves of his shirt is his favorite. I'm not quite sure if it's normal or not but I don't see why it wouldn't be. I chewed on lots of things as a child as well and I came out just fine, at least I think. Good luck to you...I'm sure she will stop in due time.

Don't worry about that, your daughter will grow out of it will certaintly stop chewing. It is very normal for her age.

When my daughter was 4 and in preschool she would do this all the time at school. I think it was a nervous habit. She is 7 now and I haven't seen her do that in years and then one day at skating lessons (first time shes been in it) she was chewing on her gloves and sleeves. I really think for my daughter it is a nervous thing.

Try and redirect the child to something else. I did it as a child and when I stopped I went to chewing my hair and then to biting my nails. I was a teen and started chewing gum instead of biting nails. For kids with really bad oral fixations they sell these things meant for kids to just chew on.

maybe your kids are still in the oral stage. this is the stage according to Sigmund Freud wherein kids like to put things in their mouths because this is their pleasure center. so I guess this is normal.
