Iron-deficiency anemia can easily be prevented. Tips in preventing IDA but not limited to are: First, you should make sure that your child is eating a well-balanced diet. If your child is breast-fed, make sure you give him/her food with iron like cereal if you are already introducing solids, if not, breast milk will suffice. If your baby is formula-fed, make sure it has added iron in it. There are also other foods that are rich in iron that children can enjoy eating, fruit pulp in juices is just one example.

thanks for the info!
what i know is that there different cases of anemia and I guess IDA is the most common. I guess my question is, does diet alone help in fixing the problem?

-An iron-poor diet is a common cause of iron deficiency. Drinking too much cow's milk is a common cause of iron deficiency in young children because cow' s milk contains little iron and can get in the way of iron absorption.

at ashley01- Iron supplements are needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding because diet alone rarely supplies the needed amount.

Right! Iron supplementation improves learning, memory, and cognitive test performance in adolescents who have low levels of iron. Iron supplementation also improves the performance of athletes with anemia and iron deficiency.

Diet is the most important way to prevent and treat iron deficiency. Eggs, Fish, Chicken and other meats, dried beans are just a few examples of food rich in iron.

for infants - Baby formula with iron and Infant cereals and other iron-fortified cereals would be good.
