When your child has difficulty uttering wiords, you might want to asses if it is a speech or a language disorder. A speech disorder refers to a problem with the actual production of sounds, whereas a language disorder refers to a difficulty understanding or putting words together to communicate ideas.

Can dyslexia be considered as a "Language disorder"?

Laurie - March 1st, 2011 9:25 AM

Yes, Honey09.
Dyslexia is a type of language disorder. But there are also different types of dyslexia. It impairs accuracy in being able to read, speak, and spell. A dyslexic child can exhibit one or all of the traits mentioned.

Auditory Processing Disorder is another example of language disorder.
The child can actually hear but he/she just can't process the meaning of what he/she heard.

Language disorders are largely associated with other developmental disorders.
