What You'll Need

  • terra cotta clay pots in various shapes
  • acrylic paints (you may use traditional Valentine's Day colors or whatever color you wish)
  • Valentine stickers
  • paint brushes
  • new pencil
  • household sponge
  • acrylic sealer spray, matte finish

Instructions

Paint terra cotta clay pot in whatever color your desire. Allow to dry. Apply a second coat for a more polished look. Let dry. Lighter colors may require a third coat. Let dry. Make sure to paint both the inside and outside of the pot, allowing a sufficient amount of drying time in between coats.

Next, decorate your pot as desired. For example, you can create a polka dot design using the eraser of a new pencil and dipping it into the paint color of your choice. Dab once in order to remove excess paint and dot carefully onto pot. Repeat for each dot. If you prefer to decorate your pot with smaller dots, use the end of a paintbrush and follow the same steps.

A household sponge can also used to add color to the pot. Wet the sponge and squeeze out excess water. Dab the sponge into paint; next, dab off excess paint using a paper towel or rag. Using a dabbing motion, sponge on a light coat of contrasting color.

Alternatively, you can paint on vertical or horizontal stripes using a thin or thick paintbrush, depending on the thickness of the stripe that you desire.

In addition, you may also add glitter, ribbon, lace or stickers to decorate the pot.

Once you have finished applying your decorations, apply a coat or two of acrylic sealer and allow to dry overnight.

Fill with candy and other treats.
