Fresh Spring Looks for Women

It may seem too early to start thinking about what you’ll wear this spring, but designers have been planning it for a while. The Spring/Summer fashion shows took place in September and October of last year. Your favorite stores are now getting ready to bring these fashions to you starting in February. Here’s your insider scoop on what to expect (and start saving your money for).

A Bygone Era
The Fall/Winter fashions this season were very much a throw back to the 1940s, with lots of feminine suits, pencil skirts and pussy-bow blouses. These trends will continue into the spring but there will also be some 1950s and even 1980s thrown into the mix. Think pouffy 1950s' skirts meets 1980s' vibrant colors like vibrant green and luscious bright pinks.

As fun and whimsical as the 1950s styles can be, the overall feel to most of the spring’s fashion is classy glamour. Unlike the revealing, sexy fashions of the past, this season's Spring/Summer collection is shaping up to be a more buttoned-up, reserved affair. Old Hollywood is a major inspiration for the elegant looks that designers like Chanel and Ralph Lauren were showcasing. If you need inspiration, then think of Katherine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly as your fashion icons for spring.

Colors and Textiles
It should come as no surprise that the colors and fabrics designers have chosen for spring are just as soft and feminine as the styles and shapes of their clothes. There was lots of satin on the runways not to mention tulle, organza and charmeuse. Some designers also enjoyed floral prints while others chose to embellish their clothes with some fine embroidery.

Although many designers decided to work with blues, yellows and greens, because of all the satin walking down the runways, there was also a fair amount of shimmery dresses and skirts. In keeping with the jewel-inspired clothing, there was also lots of sparkle, mainly in the accessories.

Accessories
If you haven’t already raided your mother’s old jewelry box, then get started. Vintage pieces will be keeping their foothold on the accessory market this spring, which is good news for those of you who rushed out to buy some of the beautiful rhinestone brooches and rings that have been all the rage this fall. With fashion leaning more towards distinctly feminine styles lately, vintage pieces could be around for quite awhile. Nothing says elegant, feminine glamour more than sophisticated, sparkly jewelry.
