how do you keep divorce from impacting school work?

Through support. Kids will be worried and be distracted but by giving them your support in all areas of their lives you can be assured that you are taking care of them every possible way.

Explain to the kids that it has nothing to do with them. It also does not hurt to help them with their homework as they are usually distracted during this time.

The sad thing is that it will affect them - from their schoolwork to personal life - when they are old enough to understand what divorce means. There is no easy way. You can explain all you want, it will still affect them. Best thing to do IMHO is to show them you're still around like Quitter said. Be as much a part of their lives even when divorced.

School work is not the only thing you worry about. Psychologically there will be a big impact on your child. It will not manifest immediately but maybe later. Divorce is a devastating thing for children. Sometimes I wish divorce were not legal in the USA.
