a friend of mine encouraged me to take iron supplements.. she said that us women are risk for anemia... is that so? if it is because of our monthly period, well if not all at least almost all women undergoes menstruation... should we all get worried then?

It never hurts to take supplements but if you follow a healthy diet then iron deficiency is nothing to worry about. On the average we lose about two tablespoons to half a cup of blood when we menstruate. So it's very minimal.

there are actually different types of causes for anemia.. excessive or abnormal blood loss like heavy menstrual flow is one of them... pregnant women are also at risk..taking vitamins or supplements are fine but your doctor would need to find out what's causin it to provide proper measure..

Anemia can be caused by physiological factors... When you feel weak most of time or feel faint, weight loss - are just a few thibgs that u can easily notice with people who have anemia... get ur labs done.

EAt foods rich in iron like meat and eggs. It is also prudent to take supplements if you need it. there are multi-vitamin varieties that give you iron and other vitamins and minerals as well.
