i don't want my dad to be admitted to a nursing home, but i never had him stay at our house for more than a week. i want to take care of him myself or hire a caregiver. what are the disadvantages of harving him here?

i think its great that you want take of your dad, but there are a lot of factors to consider like you have your own family and I'm not sure how big is your house but am elderly needs too much attention. hiring a cargiver wont be there 24 hours and if they do its very expensive.
Just have your dad go to a nursing home, there someone will take care of him he has a lot of people to talk too.

Bringing them to nursing homes isn't really a bad idea and it does not mean that you are trying to avoid your responsibility of taking care of him. Regular visits and constant communication would make your dad think that you are just doing it for his own good.

are you married? does your husband get along with your dad? This is something you should discuss with him first before you consider hiring a caregiver.
