they say that the kids environment is critical to their development, my concern is that kid furnitures are really expensives, how does one create a great environment while still in budget?

Are you familiar with bubble wrap? You can wrap edges of tables and chairs with this. it is not very attractive but very cheap!

For me, so long as your house is clean and safe, it would be a great place for your child to grow. Child proofing your house no matter how simple your house is the primary concern.

We did not baby proof everything in the house but we did make sure that the kids were always watched by a either my husband or myself. This way we are always there to prevent an injury before it happens. So just watch them with eagle eyes and they should be fine.

I agree a watchful parent or guardian is what babies need. Baby furniture is expensive already and the economy is still sputtering. In order to save costs you need to be vigilant. I know you can't be there all the time but think about what our parents went through to raise us, they did not have the conveniences we have now and they did just fine!

Wanda is right. When we were kids there was no baby proofing the home. Sometimes we parents are so paranoid when it comes to child safety. I agree that it is important but parental instincts will kick in with or without the baby proofing.
